Awards and Recognitions

Winner of the 2002 Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching, the highest recognition bestowed on a 鶹ý faculty member. Recipient of two prestigious Senior Fulbright Scholarships to spend a year teaching and doing research in Moscow during the 1995-96 academic year and to teach and conduct research in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2010-11. He has also received grants from the National Science Foundation and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Publications

Written more than 90 articles, opinion pieces in newspapers, conference papers and reviews on Soviet and Russian national security and domestic affairs in journals and newspapers in the United States and Europe. Editor of and contributor to Soviet National Security Policy Under Perestioika.

Research Interests

Conducts research on emerging Russian civil society and Russian-American relations in the context of Georgia and the Caucasus region.

Other Interests/Info

Has been a member of the 鶹ý faculty since 1972. Together with RCEP colleague Olga Medvedkov, he has taken students on five research trips to Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, the last one being in 2008.  He is married and has two boys living in Albuquerque, New Mexico and New York City.
