Hello Blog,
Today was fun but definitely not easy. We had the fantastic opportunity to hike Thaba Bosiu. This mountain holds a lot of history and heritage for Lesotho and the Basotho people. Dr. Rosenberg had us take the historic path up to the top which was in no way easy. We took multiple stops but this provided our group with the opportunity to hear the history of the mountain. It also made getting to the top and seeing the views that much more spectacular. As a history major I really appreciated the heritage and importance of Thaba Bosiu and loved getting to learn more about it while seeing the site firsthand. The second half of the day was just as exciting as well!

After leaving Thaba Bosiu, we had a very bumpy bus ride to what we originally thought were the cannibal caves where the people who killed Moshoeshoe's grandfather lived. Turns out, the caves we visited we inhabited by the people who were trying to avoid the cannibals. These caves have been home to five generations of a couple different families. Desendants of the original people still come back to maintain the homes, and one guy still lives there. We learned that you can actually stay the night for 130 rands (about $8); however, there was a general consensus that we would not want to be in there for very long. Near the homes, there were a few small cave paintings left after thousands of years. It was really cool to see this part of history because, due to the water and rock erosion, these paintings are disappearing. After a long day in the sun, everyone is super tired. We are excited for the rest of our stay in Ramabanta, as well as our next stop.
