On the Path of Totality

For four minutes across a 115-mile path stretching from Mexico to Maine, the sky will darken as the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth during an astronomical event known as the Great Northern American Eclipse on April 8, 2024. Â鶹´«Ã½ University is positioned perfectly in the path of totality and is hosting an event for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

WittClipse 2024

Leveraging Â鶹´«Ã½'s position along the path, WittClipse is the brainchild of a committee comprised of experts in astronomy, meteorology, climate change, physics, and more, who have joined together to present a series of activities and events to mark this phenomenon.

Interactive Experience

Using an accurately scaled model of the solar system with 15 "Planetary Information Stations" located the proper distance from the model Sun, Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s award-winning educator, author, and Professor Emeritus of Physics Dan Fleisch has created an astronomical experience to remember both on campus and off.

Thanks, Dean Regas

Nationally known astronomer, public speaker, TV/radio presenter, and podcaster Dean Regas kicked off Â鶹´«Ã½'s pre-eclipse programming with a public, all-ages astronomy presentation on Saturday, March 2. A sky tour and telescopic observing at Weaver Observatory followed.
