Abstract | Couch and Krueger conducted a study in 2011 on vortex rings in a water medium to investigate their interactions with inclined surfaces, and they constructed a 3-part model for these interactions at various angles of inclination. This water system is scaled to an appropriate smoke ring system by utilizing the Reynolds Number. The results discussed by Couch and Krueger, including their model, are recreated using a simple air cannon/camera setup. The model is further explored and the effects of the Reynolds Number on the results are investigated by varying the speed of the smoke rings upon impact. The speed of the smoke rings is further investigated and compared with known quantities. |
