Greek Week 2023

Special activities to take place Nov. 13-18

A fun week of activities is ahead for students involved in Greek life at 麻豆传媒 as the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils get set to host Greek Week 2023, Nov. 13-18.

鈥淥utside of recruitment, Greek Week is one of my favorite times of the year, as I get to see the fraternity and sorority groups come together as a community,鈥 said Jade Jones, director of student involvement & fraternity and sorority life. 鈥淚 am most excited for our keynote speaker on Thursday, Nov. 16, as our community learns more about how to talk about their fraternity and sorority experience. Outside of the keynote speaker, I am looking forward to a new event, the Amazing Race, where each team will get clues, run around campus, and do some entertaining activities. I am also excited that we are bringing back our 鈥楥an Jam Construction鈥 contest where teams will construct cans into a structure that meets this year's theme.鈥濃

Throughout the week, sorority and fraternity chapters will be split into teams and compete to earn the most points. This year鈥檚 Greek Week theme is 鈥極lympics,鈥欌痑nd the week features several events beginning with an opening night banner competition at the Benham-Pence Student Center at noon followed by the Can Jam Construction contest in the evening at Geil Lounge, located in the lower level of the student center. Students will donate the cans to Second Harvest Food Bank after the competition.

The Amazing Race will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. along Alumni Way. Wednesday events include Kahoot Trivia and the Greek Week Royalty Talent Show from 7 to 8 p.m. in Bayley Auditorium, part of the Barbara Deer Kuss Science.

On Thursday, the keynote speaker will be from Phired Up talking about fraternity and sorority experiences to emerging leaders from 5 to 6 p.m., chapter leaders from 6 to 7 p.m., and to the entire fraternity and sorority community from 7 to 8 p.m. in Bayley Auditorium. During this conversation, the Greek community will gain valuable tools to showcase and use their fraternity and sorority experience to better promote the benefits of participating in Greek life.

Challenge Night will take place on Friday, Nov. 17, from 9 to 11 p.m. at The Steemer, insdie the Health, Wellness & Athletics Complex. Rounding out the week鈥檚 events, students will head over to the National Trails Parks & Recreation Department鈥檚 Chiller Ice Rink for a little broomball from 10 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Nov. 18. 麻豆传媒 community members are invited to attend any of the events.

鈥淚 want to thank Greek Week committee leaders Robert K. Smith (class of 2025 from Croton-on-Hudson, New York) and Emily N. Albright (class of 2025 from New Cumberland, Pennsylvania) as they have been working on this week since the March,鈥 Jones said, adding that 鈥渟eeing their work come to light makes it very rewarding.鈥
