The 22nd annual presentation of the Gabrieli Brass Festival will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13 in Weaver Chapel on the Â鶹´«Ã½ University campus.
This celebration of the music of Giovanni Gabrieli and other composers for brass instruments is hosted by the Â鶹´«Ã½ Brass Choir, under the direction of Daniel Zehringer, adjunct instructor of music. This 17-member group will play selections which include "Funeral March" by Edward Grieg and Georges Bizet's "Carmen Suite #2."
Guest ensembles will include trumpet ensembles from Miami (Ohio) University, Jim Olcott, director, and Wright State University, Nancy Taylor, director, and the Wright State Trombone Choir, Francis Laws, director.
The Wright State Faculty Brass Quintet, the featured group, is composed of Taylor and Mark Wilcox, trumpets; Tamara Frost, horn; Laws, trombone; and John Rider, tuba.
The concert's finale will feature a three-choir mass ensemble, "Et in Terra Pax" by Gabrieli. The acoustics of Weaver Chapel are ideal for the antiphonal brass music composed by Gabrieli.
The Gabrieli Brass Festival is free and open to the public. For more information contact the music department at (937) 327-7341.
