Professional Development for Secondary School Teachers

Due to Financial Issues, the Ermarth Institute is currently suspending our Continuing Education offerings. We hope to resume them in 2025-2026.

Â鶹´«Ã½ University is widely known in our region for the development of excellent teachers. These teachers educate the youth of Springfield, Clark County, and the surrounding region, and they know that learning and professional development never cease. To help those teachers continue to learn and improve, the Margaret Ermarth Institute for the Public Humanities offers regular professional development opportunities for secondary school teachers which will give participants Continuing Education Units (CEUs) which can be applied to their district requirements for continuing education. The Institute is also working with the Department of Education to offer graduate credit towards an advanced degree.

The Margaret Ermarth Institute for the Public Humanities offers approximately two teacher professional development opportunities per year, one in the fall and one in the spring. These learning opportunities will offer Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) which can be applied to your school district’s requirements for continuing education. These are free and open to any teachers in the area. Sessions will be in person and held at Â鶹´«Ã½ University, as well as being taught by Â鶹´«Ã½ University faculty. Each seminar will require approximately 2 ½ hours of pre-work (typically readings assigned by the faculty member leading the seminar), and the seminar itself will be 90 minutes, leading to a total of 5 hours of CEU for each participant.
