Champion City Write Now (CCWN) invites you to apply for the Second Annual Writers’ Camps, which will be held June 17–21, and June 24-28, on Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s campus. The Writers’ Camps are immersive writing programs open to local junior high and high school students, (rising) grades 7–12. Attendees will participate in 4 days of workshops led by CCWN’s team of instructors to create stories, poems, essays, and comics. The Writers’ Camps will conclude with a final day of celebration and showcasing – campers will read their best work at a public event, and all attendees will publish their selected pieces in the printed CCWN Anthology.
To be considered, applicants should submit a short original writing sample of their best work. Applications are due by April 30, 2024, but will be considered on a rolling basis until all spots are filled. Candidates will be notified of their acceptance by May 28, 2024.
2024 Event Schedules
Eligibility Guidelines
- Applicants from all Miami Valley area schools are welcome to apply; students in Clark County will be given priority application review
- Applicants must be in (rising) grades 7–12
- Only one entry per student
- Only single-author writing samples are eligible

Submission Guidelines
Attendees will participate in workshops for four different genres (fiction, poetry, narrative nonfiction, and graphics) but only need to submit a writing sample in one category to apply. Please see guidelines below:
Fiction: Fiction is written in prose and describes imaginary people and events. We consider short fiction stories on any subject. All characters must be original. Please submit short stories of at least 500 words and no more than 5000 words. Upload only one submission in a single file. Include your name and page numbers in your submission file.
Poetry: Poetry is written work that uses rhythmical language and often appears in lines rather than prose sentences. Submit a packet of 1–5 poems. We prefer packets that include at least 2 poems but will also accept single-poem submissions. Please do not submit poems separately. Submit all poems in a single document. Include your name and page numbers in your submission file.
Nonfiction: Creative nonfiction is written in prose and describes real events using storytelling techniques. Please submit your memoir, personal narrative, or creative essays of at least 500 words and no more than 5000 words. Nonfiction based on research must include a list of sources used. Upload only one submission in a single file. Include your name and page numbers in your submission file.
Graphic Comics: Submit comics (of at least one panel and up to two pages of multiple panels), illustrated essays, or illustrated poems. Submissions can be excerpts of longer works and can be in black and white or color. Include your name and page numbers in your submission file.
The Writers’ Camp registration fee for the week is $100, which includes on-campus meals, instruction, and materials. Students may apply for a partial need-based fee reduction if eligible. All accepted students must pay a $50 nonrefundable deposit no later than June 3, 2024. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from campus each day.
