Working at the Writing Center

Being an advisor at the Writing Center is one of the most rewarding experiences available to students at Â鶹´«Ã½. To work with other writers not only contributes to their learning, but to your own, and it is an incredibly satisfying feeling to be part of a productive consultation.

But being an advisor is also incredibly demanding. Good advisors are good writers (or rather, good revisers), yes, but also good listeners, and they must be flexible enough to adapt to the needs of different writers and different writing situations. If you are interested in taking on that challenge, please write to the director, Mike Mattison, at mmattison@wittenberg.edu

I’m abundantly grateful for the time that I’ve spent in the Writing Center. My fellow advisors encourage me, support me, and inspire me daily. The writers that I collaborate with demonstrate such persistence, creativity, and compassion. They allow me to explore faraway places and unread books. They make me laugh out loud. I truly am excited every time someone makes an appointment to talk with me. Not every session is easy, but every session is worth it. If you like writing, talking, collaborating, discussing, and engaging with others, pick up an application to work in the Writing Center. You’ll grow. You’ll be stretched. You’ll be exposed to different ideas and concepts. Â鶹´«Ã½ it a shot!
